Designing tariff systems in public passenger transport is a complex issue of optimization by means of satisfying the wants and needs of all the engaged parties. An integrated passenger transport system (IPTS) stands for the concept of organization and management of public passenger transport based on a uniform tariff system. The issue of transport disadvantage of certain peri-urban and rural areas is the result of poorly organized transport systems. Social and spatial isolation in the framework of mobility is partly the fault of the way in which tariff systems have been designed with no regard to the social factors of the engaged parties for which such systems are designed – its users. Special emphasis in the research of tariff systems is placed on resolving issues of designing tariff zones, maximizing social welfare, transport equity, and transport disadvantage. An outline of the existing research and a review of literature concerning tariffs in integrated passenger transport systems is given, and proposals are put forward for future research due to the need for designing socially beneficial tariff systems, which would eliminate social exclusion, i.e., the transport disadvantage of individuals or parts of society.

ABSTRACT Intermodal freight transport is a significant sector of the transport industry, and intermodal terminals play a crucial role in that sector. Therefore, decision regarding suitable location for an intermodal terminal is a critical element of the establishment process – it is essential for the functionality of the total intermodal freight distribution chain. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate criteria used for determination of suitable locations for intermodal terminals. In compliance with the European traffic policy and efficient functioning of intermodal transport, location criteria were formed and evaluated: legislative, environmental, cargo flows, spatial, technical–technological and organizational. Each criterion is divided further into sub-criteria and evaluated with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The criteria for defining the network of intermodal terminals and their efficiency in the processes have great impact on the quality of the entire process of intermodal transport. The results show that the criterion of goods flows has the most significant impact on the selection of the terminal location, followed by spatial criterion.

A variety of methodologies are being used across Eu-rope for the estimation of railway infrastructure capacity. This paper introduces the basic principles of the methodol-ogies used – analytical methodology (e.g. Slovak railways), UIC methodology, and the graphically developed methodology of the Department of Railway Transport, University of Žilina (KŽD). On the basis of these new approaches, the occupation time estimation is researched. This new method is based on a graphic approach that uses operational time intervals as part of occupation time in accordance with the Slovak methodology. The new methodology concerns graphic capacity estimation and is a conceptual framework developed by the authors for easier evaluation of occupation time in train traffic diagrams.

The population’s mobility is becoming increasingly difficult, primarily due to the uncontrolled growth in personal car traffic - especially in the cities and surrounding towns. Integrated passenger transport represents a logistical platform for the optimum management of population mobility using public transport. Integrated passenger transport enables optimal management of transport supply and demand, and thus represents a sustainable transport system in terms of economy, ecology and spatial planning. The paper shows the approach to the management of transport demand incorporated into plans for sustainable urban mobility (SUPM), a review of the present state of mobility in the area of the City of Sisak, and a case study of integrated passenger transport in the territory of the City of Sisak. The paper will investigate not only public integrated transport system but it will be incorporated also public bicycle. At final stage of mobility plan we will have in the territory of the City ...

ABSTRACT Nowadays, cities have a problem with transport planning. Transport planning is a time-consuming process and a data-eating process. For the purpose of transport planning, it is necessary to collect up-to-date data, not only transport data (number of vehicles, bus lines, passengers carried, etc.), but also demographic data, urbanization data and economic data. The most frequently changed data are those from transport, which means it is necessary to implement a strategic process to collect these data. This process is not only time-consuming but also money-consuming. Without transport data it is not possible to make smart mobility plans for citizens. The most important function of transport data collection is building of an Origin-Destination Matrix (OD Matrix). There is a wide range of methods for collecting and building of this OD Matrix. This paper explains the building of OD Matrix using innovated cordon survey in road transport. Cordon survey is a field method to collect information about travel preferences of road drivers. Cordon survey has been performed on strategic points entering the City of Varaždin. The cordon survey was carried out during two-hour intervals in early morning, late morning and afternoon. Keywords: OD matrix, cordon survey, transport planning.

Determining a suitable location for an intermodal terminal is a critical element of the terminal establishment process, a decision on which the functionality of the entire intermodal freight distribution chain depends. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the criteria used for deciding on suitable locations for intermodal terminals in Croatia. First, quality indicators of intermodal terminals were identified: flexibility, safety and security, reliability, time, and accessibility. Based on these quality indicators, and in compliance with the European traffic policy and efficient functioning of intermodal transport, location criteria were formed and evaluated: legislative, environmental, goods flows, spatial, technical-technological, and organizational. Each criterion is divided further into subcriteria and evaluated using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method. The results of the study show that the criterion of goods flows has the most significant impact on the selection of the terminal location, followed by the spatial criterion. A position that connects to the European traffic corridor network is essential for a Croatian terminal's success.

Railway infrastructures and services in former Yugoslavia countries have been in a downward spiral ever since the country began to dismantle in the early 1990ies. Even if there have been scattered initiatives and investments to lift provided services to appealing levels after the war, a continuous downward trend can be identified in all important performance indicators. Not only have the numbers of services dwindled, especially on cross-border relations, service speeds have so, too. For example, the number of the passenger trains on the route Ljubljana – Zagreb – Beograd decreased from 16 in 1989 to 1 in 2018. Numerous lines have been put out of service or not back into service after war-attributed abandonment. A negative apex is marked by the cessation of cross-border passenger services to/from Bosnia and Herzegovina with the winter 2016 timetable change. In the research presented in this paper, taking Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina specifically as our survey objects, we embark on the task to specify and quantify this decade(s)-long deterioration in contrast to a dynamic railway development in other European countries witnessed during the same period. To begin with, we present a quantitative framework to make the deterioration comprehendible in various dimensions, from train numbers via efficiency and productivity indicators to commercial speed development of services. This study is a preliminary research to serve as a basis for a planned larger project, ultimately aiming at reducing the identified barriers in a long term.
